OPAL & TOURMALINE
Shout-out to October divas: lucky you, you have two birthstones! The birthstones for October are Opal & Tourmaline.
They are two spectacular birthstones, featuring endless color combinations and iridescent hues. Learn more about these two precious gemstones, browse our collections for a valid substitute, design your piece of jewelry, and discover the perfect gift for those born in October.
OPAL: a whole rainbow of colors
October's birthstone is opal. Opal is a distinct stone for reflecting the light in a complete rainbow of colors. The most common kind of opal has a white, milky base color with multicolor pastel shades, while the black opal reflects blue, grey, and green tones.
Opal is an emotional stone and reflects the mood of the wearer. Encouraging both freedom and independence, it stimulates originality and creativity. Wearing an opal brings loyalty, faithfulness, and spontaneity.
Opal is a precious stone, and we only select the finest opals, from time to time, to craft 18k one-of-a-kind pieces. That's why you won't find opals in our regular collections. But still, we can customize a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry just for you, researching the perfect opal and building a unique setting around it.
Anthony's custom OPAL
Ring DESIGN
Designed by Anthony for his wife to celebrate the birth of their first son. The son was born in October, so the ring features a beautiful opal stone as the sole protagonist of this design.
The ring was built in 18kt gold, with an opal 12mm in diameter, and 1ct of bezel-set diamonds.
Anthony drew the design himself, and we created it to be the ring of his dreams.
THE perfect SUBSTITUTE FOR AN OPAL:
MOTHER OF PEARL.
High-quality opals, though, are extremely rare. If you like the opal's iridescence, you might find that our Mother of Pearl is just the right substitute!
Mother of Pearl is the nacre produced by some mollusks as an inner shell layer. It is durable and iridescent. It has a very distinct multi-colored effect and a faint glow, making it very similar to other moon-like gemstones. Just like an Opal, but DelBrenna style!
TOURMALINE: A TRULY COLORFUL GEMSTONE
Tourmaline is a beautiful stone that comes in many different hues: pink, green, blue, yellow, black, and many more. You can find bi-colored or even tri-colored tourmalines in a vast range of color saturation and intensity, which makes this gemstone unique and versatile to design your very own piece of jewelry.
Tourmaline has excellent properties, and different colors are believed to have healing properties. Black tourmaline protects the wearer and promotes self-confidence. Pink tourmaline is a symbol for love and is associated with compassion and gentleness. Green tourmaline provides the wearer with courage, strength and stamina.
